Small cracks in a cylinder are the result of transport conditions and structure materials. When the crack increases, the structures safety will be harmfully affected. The aim of this study was to investigate the crack of a cylinder. The finite element method (3D) is used to determine stress intensity factor (SIF) at critical positions. The SIF at the crack is presented by the influences of mechanical and geometrical characteristics of a cylinder with critical positions of cracks along the weld. This is very significant for the safety of transport (gas, crude oil) where, analyses allow improving the materials construction of the cylinder. The materials choice with taking into account the environment gives some solutions; on one hand, it increases the life of the reservoir and on the other hand, it avoids the damage and pollution.
