Three heteronuclear complexes: LaY5(Ala)12(ClO4)18 · 15H2O (1), \{ND2Y5\} (Ala)14(ClO4)21 · 25H2O (2) and ErY(Ala)4(ClO4)6 · 8H2O (3) were synthesized at the same initial concentration of each lanthanide ion and the ligand. The crystal structure of complex 3 was determined by single crystal X-ray diffraction and showed that the erbium and yttrium ions in the complex have the same coordination stereochemistry.
