A polymer electrolyte based on PEO complexed with sodium salt (NaClO3) has been prepared by a solution-cast technique. Various properties such as the composition-dependence conductivity, temperature-dependence conductivity in the temperature range of 303-373?K and the transference number measurements have been carried out to characterize the polymer electrolyte system. The conductivity of the electrolyte (PEO?+?NaClO3) is about 103 times larger than that of pure PEO at room temperature. The transport number measurements show that the charge transport is mainly due to ions in this polymer electrolyte system. An electrochemical cell with the configuration Na/(PEO?+?NaClO3)/(I2?+?C?+?electrolyte) has been fabricated and its discharge characteristics were studied. The Open Circuit Voltage (OCV) and Short Circuit Current (SCC) are 2.97?V and 346?[mu]A, respectively. Other parameters of the cell are evaluated and presented in this paper.
