Stability constants of ternary complexes of Cu(II) containing catechol or analogues and amino acids, tryptophan, tyrosine, or phenylalanine have been determined potentiometrically at 25C in aqueous medium having ionic strength of 0.2 M NaOH. computer program was used. The stability order has been explained on the basis of hydrophobic interactions of the noncoordinated groups of the ligands. The complexes have been isolated in the solid state and characterized by elemental analysis, magnetic measurements, IR, and electronic spectral studies.
