Direct reaction at T = 200°C of gaseous BF3 on B2O3 in a closed silica tube leads to B---O---F glass formation in the cold part of the vessel. The vitreous material obtained from vapour phase condensation has a weak dimensionality as indicated by the low glass transition temperature, Tg = 60°C. The relationship between the trimeric molecular form, B3O3F3, and the polymer glass (BOF)n is discussed with respect to formation conditions and glass decomposition.
