This paper investigates the influence of bearing damping on the
instability of rotating asymmetric shafts supported by isotropic bearings.
In the rotating frame of reference, an analytical method based on modal
expansion is developed to determine transition curves for stable and
unstable regions. The effects of damping coefficients of bearings on the
dynamic instability are evaluated for various bearing stiffness.
