This is the third edition of a text on diagnosis and treatment of infertility. Interestingly, while only seven years intervened between the first and second editions, 13 years passed before the third edition appeared. This is important because it indicates that a completely new book is before us. Aided by 54 contributors, the three editors present 36 chapters in 11 sections of the book. They also include two appendices of previously published ethical considerations concerning new reproductive technologies and artificial insemination. In their introduction, the editors note that "The advances in infertility since the last edition have been truly astonishing." Many of these advances are presented in exceptional form by some of the very individuals who have made this progress possible. Chapters of special excellence include those by Richard L.
